Behaviour and Attitudes

At The Orchard School, our core values are courage, determination, respect, and kindness. These principles are at the heart of everything we do, guiding our actions and shaping the character of our community.

We have incredibly high expectations of our children and are very proud of their behaviour and attitudes to learning.

Values Awards

Each Friday, children take part in a whole school assembly where one child from each class is nominated by their class teacher to receive the 'Value Medal'. The children then take these medals home, to be returned the following week for the next recipients. The names of these children are then shared in the Friday newsletter with our school community. You can see what value they were awarded the medal for by the colour of their name in the newsletter.

Courage = Red

Determination = Green

Respect = Blue

Kindness = Purple

Headteacher Lottery

Each week during Monday's assembly, there is great excitement as a lottery ball is chosen. On it is a number between 1 and 31. The corresponding child in each class's register gets to visit the Headteacher on the Friday of that week and share their good work.  This good work is rewarded with a special Headteacher's sticker. If your child comes home with a Headteacher's sticker, please ask them what it is for as they will be very keen to tell you!

It is definitely the highlight of Mrs Cary's week - every week!

It's Great to be Eight!

Cultural capital is essential in an infant school as it enriches children's learning experiences and broadens their understanding of the world. By guaranteeing eight great experiences before they turn 8, we ensure that each child gains valuable insights and skills that extend beyond the traditional curriculum. These experiences, coupled with numerous other opportunities, foster curiosity, resilience, and a love of learning, laying a strong foundation for their future education and personal development.

School Councillors

Our School Council is a group of pupil representatives from each class who work together to improve our school. They meet regularly to share ideas and plan activities that make school life better for everyone. Please see our school council representatives here.

The goals of our School Council are:

  • Listening to Students: Making sure everyone's ideas are heard.
  • Encouraging Participation: Getting children involved in school events and activities.
  • Improving School Life: Finding ways to make our school a better place.
  • Building Community: Bringing children and staff together through fun events and projects.

We are proud of our School Council and the positive changes they bring. If you have any suggestions, please talk to your class representative. Let's work together to make The Orchard School great!

Class Monitors

At The Orchard School, our Classroom Monitors help make our school a better place. Right from when they come into Reception our children are encouraged and supported to take on different responsibilities. They might do small tasks like handing out materials and keeping the classroom tidy. They might be a line leader or they may be asked to help their classmates when they need it. They set a good example by following the rules.

Through this responsibility our children can feel more confident by helping others; they learn to be organised and work as a team; they help to make each class a happy place.

We are proud of our Classroom Monitors and their hard work. They help make The Orchard School a great place to learn!

Clubs

At The Orchard School , we understand the importance of providing a diverse range of experiences for our students to develop both friendships and different skills. Through a range of clubs offered, we encourage our pupils to interact with their peers, explore new interests, and build confidence.
